HELLO!
My name is Jan Topczewski.
I am a psychologist and psychological therapist.

I know from my own experience that talking about life's difficulties may be a big challenge. That's why during our work together, I aim to create a safe space where all parts of you are welcome - even the parts that have been misunderstood, rejected, ridiculed, or hurt by others. My goal is to support you in the process of building the life you want to live.
my approach

Openness and deep affirmation of diversity are the cornerstones of my practice. Whether in individual or couple therapy, I work with people of all gender identities and sexual orientations. My space is safe and welcoming for individuals practicing consensual non-monogamy (including polyamory), kink, as well as those involved in sex work. I have the necessary knowledge and skills to work with intersex and neurodivergent individuals.

modalities
My therapeutic practice is founded on robust scientific principles. I stay up-to-date with the latest academic literature and innovations in the field of mental health. In my therapeutic practice, I integrate approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT). These approaches fall under the umbrella of the so-called third wave of cognitive-behavioral therapy, and their effectiveness is supported by numerous high-quality studies.

structure
The structure of both individual and couple therapy is similar. We'll begin the therapeutic process with several sessions where we'll discuss what you're struggling with and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Once we have clarity on the direction, we'll focus on addressing current, and sometimes past, difficulties. Together, we'll work on understanding challenging experiences (emotions, thoughts, memories, etc.) and develop practical skills to help you cope with life's challenges. Throughout the therapeutic process, we'll continuously monitor how the quality of our therapeutic relationship supports change and whether our collaboration is heading in the right direction.
